AN UPDATE FROM MISS TESS

Welcome to our November edition of the Victory Performance Centre Newsletter for 2023!

Hi, VPC friends and family

Wow! Things have gone so fast, and it will all come to an end very quickly, but there is still so much to pack in.

Over the weekend I travelled to Rotorua to participate in the Zony Awards as I was nominated for “Best Choreography” in a Musical/Play in the years 2022-2023 (Pictured). Although I didn’t walk away with the win, the Musical Newsies that I choreographed for won best ensemble and best lead female. It was a great opportunity to work with a talented bunch of passionate kids.

In this newsletter, I want to highlight what we did over the school holidays and get some dancers excited about our workshops and events at the end of this term and in preparation for 2024.

Of course, we can’t go any further without mentioning our end-of-year show. I’m so excited about hosting this event at Tauranga Boys College with its much bigger stage, which gives us the feeling of a professional theatre to show off the hard work. All the information will be in the Show Handbook – link below.

I hope the kids have had fun practising, and I hope you continue to encourage them to partake in some practice at home.

Thanks to all those who have volunteered and provided their time to help get our show live. It does take a village!

I am always more than willing to chat regarding any concerns, feedback, or even just a friendly “Hello!” Please do not hesitate to contact me via email at admin@victoryperformancecentre.com at any time.

TERM THREE HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS

We had a BLAST at our school holiday workshops during the second week of the school holidays. This time, we did things a little differently and tailored our workshops for different ages.

PREINTERMEDIATES

Our PreIntermediate crew got busy with a video project. We created video footage of the girls’ hard work throughout the year and made it ART! This workshop was a full day, which included choreography of the dance, costumes, hair and make-up and filming.

Take a look at the video to see their amazing effort!

TINIES, PREJUNIOR AND JUNIOR

Our beautiful Tinies, PreJunior and Juniors spread the fun over two days. The first day we celebrated with a Spring theme by painting a garden pot and planting a seed. Then it was on to learning about progressions and growth in acro, bridging and handstand practice and created a contemporary dance about a flower.

More fun followed the next day, with a Halloween themed day! We danced a spooky dance – MJ’s iconic Thriller, took part in theatre games and learnt about bones in the body! We also made slime which was messy, but who doesn’t love slime?!

If you loved our recent workshops, keep reading on as we have something special in the lead-up to Christmas.

ALL HANDS ON DECK! ITS END-OF-YEAR SHOW TIME.

It’s all go as we ramp up for our end-of-year show.

It’s so exciting holding this at Tauranga Boys College, which provides more room for everyone to attend and gives the show a professional show feel for the kids with a bigger stage and backstage area.

We’ve just completed a very successful day practising our opening and finale rehearsal, which we followed up with so much fun at our photo day, thanks to Giselle from Giselle B Photography.

Remember: Saturday, 25th November, will be our dress rehearsal at Tauranga Boys College – Graham Young Theatre.

Tickets are on sale now, priced at $22 for kids, $32 for adults and $28 for gold card holders. Two show times to choose from, 1 pm and 4 pm, or come to both! We have 500 tickets to sell and need to reach this to cover costs, so please help us by sharing our event and encouraging those around you to join us.

Just so you know, while we will have a professional photographer and videographer on the day, we cannot promise we’ll capture an image of each child on stage.

Our 2023 Show Handbook provides all the details you need leading up to the show. Times, costumes, pickup and drop off details, hair, and make-up requirements. You name it; we’ve covered it in the handbook. This is the first place to head for information to save you time.

MOVIE AFTERNOON - 17th DECEMBER

This year our usual awards afternoon is changing a little. We’ll still be handing out awards, but we’ll do this at our end-of-year show.

Instead, we’ll be holding a movie afternoon on Sunday 17th December. This’ll be a chance to chill out, enjoy a video with friends and enjoy the Christmas build up. We’ll be handing back sticker charts as well.

OPEN WEEK - 18 - 22nd DECEMBER

Your chance to try out ANY dance classes across the week! Our Open Week is designed to give everyone some free time to look at different class options and other styles to take up for 2024.

We also encourage you to bring along your friends to try out dance at VPC! Class times and styles will vary and will be announced on our VPC Families Facebook page closer to the time.

CHRISTMAS WORKSHOP - 21st DECEMBER

Tess can’t sit still…. and we know how much the kids love taking part in her activities, so we’re pulling together a Christmas Workshop on the 21st December! This is aimed for our tinies, juniors and prejuniors.

This time, the workshop will be, you guessed it, Christmas themed! We’ll make Christmas decorations, elf dances and ensure there is plenty of FUN. This will be held at The Black Sheep studio and will run from 9am – 2pm. Keep an eye out for more details to come!

Make your child’s next birthday party an unforgettable experience with the ultimate dance extravaganza!

We can custom birthday party packages to your child’s unique interests, ensuring an experience like no other. Picture this: a 45-minute dance adventure filled with laughter and energy! Some of the birthday party options are:

  • Standard dance lesson in your child’s favorite style

  • Let the birthday kid dance with their favorite costumed character – Elsa or other beloved friends
  • A dance performance to the birthday kid’s most-loved song, creating magical memories

CLASS VIDEO AND MUSIC

Don’t forget – all dance music and dance class videos are available via the Jack Rabbit portal.

This is really helpful so the kids can do that little bit extra practice in the lead up to the show, or if they’ve missed a class.

If you haven’t accessed before, check out the ‘How to video‘ on our VPC Families Facebook Group.

FIND YOUR LONG LOST ITEMS…

Firstly, just a reminder to please NAME ALL ITEMS (including, shoes, clothing and water bottles) that you bring to dancing.

We have accumulated quite the collection over the year and it is time for the pile of lost property to go home. Please have a look through the bucket next time you’re at the hall. I have also uploaded a photo of items collected on the family facebook group. A reminder that all items not collected by the 22nd of DECEMBER will be donated to charity.
